While much of our work is done through voluntary efforts, developing and running a Community Foundation is a complex and time consuming process. A decision was made in the early stages of development that an Executive Director would need to be hired and put in place in order to help lead the efforts of PEACE Isla Mujeres.
Anna Douglas was hired and began as the new Executive Director for PEACE Isla Mujeres in January 2008. Anna comes from the Twin Cities in Minnesota but has lived and worked in Central America and Mexico for a number of years.
Anna holds a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work and a Master's Degree in Education and has 10+ years of experience working in education and the nonprofit sector in Mexico and in the U.S.
While Anna returned to Isla Mujeres in October 2007 and moved back in December 2007, she is no newbie to Isla or to Mexico. Anna lived, worked and volunteered on Isla from 2002-2004 after which she moved to Chiapas, Mexico where she completed her thesis while working with a Mexican NGO teaching Peace Education to indigenous children in street situations. Anna brings an interesting perspective as one who has worked both domestically and internationally in direct service, administration, and advocacy.
Anna is driven by her strong sense of community, respect and collaboration and is very excited to be a part of this dynamic new organization.
